The plain-English guide
Getting found on Google,
explained properly.
No jargon, no mystery. This page explains how Google decides who shows up when someone searches for a landscaper, exactly what we do about it on the Local SEO plan, what your part is, and how you will know it is working.
How Google decides who comes up first
Think of Google as a mate everyone asks for recommendations. When someone types “landscaper near me”, Google recommends the businesses it trusts most. It builds that trust from three things: does your site clearly answer what was searched, do other websites vouch for you, and do real customers rate you. That is the whole game.
A new website starts with no trust - like the new firm in town nobody has heard of yet. Your site is four months old, Google currently lists only 2 of its 40+ pages, and competitors are even running paid adverts against searches for your own name. Good news: trust can be built deliberately. That is what this plan is.
What we actually do, piece by piece
The Articles
One helpful article a month
Real people type real questions into Google: "how much does a patio cost", "best fencing for coastal gardens", "composite or timber decking". Google's job is to find the page that best answers the question. So every month we write one, using your real jobs and your real prices.
What it gets you: A stranger with a garden project in mind reads your answer, sees your work, and you are no longer a stranger. The article keeps working for years - it is a salesperson that never clocks off.
The Area Pages
A page for every town you work in
When someone in Havant searches "fencing Havant", Google looks for a page about exactly that - fencing, in Havant. A generic homepage loses to a specific page every time. So we build a dedicated page for each town and service combination, one by one, month by month.
What it gets you: Think of it as opening a shop window on every high street in Sussex. Whichever town the customer is in, there is a page that speaks directly to them - and Google knows it.
The Backlinks
Other websites vouching for you
Every time a reputable website links to yours - a trade directory, a local news site, a supplier's "our installers" page - Google reads it as a vote of confidence. It is word of mouth between websites. Sites with many trusted votes outrank sites with none, almost regardless of anything else.
What it gets you: We build these votes steadily: proper directory listings, local mentions, supplier and partner links. This is the slowest piece and the most powerful - it is the main reason established firms sit above new ones.
The Map Listing
Your Google Business Profile, run properly
The map box with the stars is where most local customers actually click - often before they look at any website. Google decides who appears there from how complete, active and reviewed the profile is. We run yours: photos from real jobs every month, posts, services, opening info, questions answered.
What it gets you: You show up in the map for more searches, looking busy and trusted. For a local trade this is the single fastest lever there is.
The Reviews
More five-star proof, on autopilot
Two firms both have 5.0 stars. One has 10 reviews, one has 60. Everyone picks the second - and so does Google. After each job finishes, we make asking painless: a one-tap link for the customer, a nudge at the right moment.
What it gets you: Your review count climbs month after month. Every one is a permanent public endorsement that competitors cannot copy.
The Housekeeping
Making sure Google can even see you
None of the above works if Google cannot read the site properly. Right now it lists only 2 of your 40+ pages. We fix that first: the site map submitted, every page pushed into Google's index, speed and technical checks monthly.
What it gets you: The shop is actually on the map. This is week-one work, and it is the cheapest win of the lot.
Your part is genuinely small
We do the writing, the building, the technical work and the chasing. From you, three things:
- Photos of finished jobs (you already send these)
- The town each job was in - one line on WhatsApp
- Let us send your happy customers the one-tap review link
What happens when, honestly
Anyone promising page one of Google in a fortnight is lying to you. The map listing and reviews move first, in weeks. The rankings take months, then keep paying. Here is the honest shape:
Month 1
Foundations
The housekeeping: whole site into Google's index, Business Profile taken over and filled out properly, review link set up, first article live.
Months 2 to 3
Momentum
Reviews climbing, articles and area pages stacking up, directory and local links building. The map listing starts appearing for more searches.
Months 4 to 6
Compounding
Rankings move on the searches that matter and map appearances turn into calls. Every month stacks on the last - this is where doing it beats waiting.
How you will know it is working
Every month you get a one-page report in plain English: which searches you now show up for, how many people visited, how many called or sent a quote request. No graphs you need a degree to read. You judge it on the only number that matters - enquiries.
The next step
All of it lives in one plan.
